Huddle Wimbledon’s Fire Station in the Running for AJ Retrofit & Reuse Awards 2025
We’re so excited to share some brilliant news. Our much-loved former fire station in the heart of Wimbledon, home to Huddle Wimbledon and The Fire Station Café, has been shortlisted for the Architects’ Journal Retrofit & Reuse Awards 2025! We’re in the Adaptive Reuse into Other (up to £5 million) category. (Try saying that quickly!)

The AJ Retrofit & Reuse Awards celebrate architectural excellence in transforming and repurposing existing buildings, with a big focus on sustainability, creativity and making the most of what’s already built.

Our building first opened its doors in 1904 as Wimbledon’s fire station. Now, thanks to the talent and vision of Sanja Tiedemann and Eugene Codjoe from Studio Yume Architects, it’s been lovingly reimagined into a coworking space and café that keeps its historic charm but works perfectly for modern life (and has plenty of good coffee on hand).
As Sanja put it: “We didn’t just preserve its brickwork; we preserved its soul. We focused on what matters: daylight, warmth, flexibility and creating a space that inspires people to think, share and grow. This was about more than design, it was about giving life to an old building, reducing waste, honouring the past and providing a space for the local community.”

Making it onto the shortlist puts Huddle Wimbledon’s fire station in some wonderfully inspiring company and it’s all thanks to the incredible team effort, care and craft poured into every brick, beam and light fitting.
Results will be announced on Wednesday 10th September. Find out more below.
